How we handle your personal data when you ask for quotes.

Last updated: 1 November 2026

Who we are

Rural Home Services is operated by Jon Benjamin Borseth trading as Borseth, Taigh Farrais, MacDonald Drive, Forres, IV36 1NG, Scotland. We're the data controller for the personal data you give us. We have paid the data protection fee to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under application number C2074745. We will add our ICO registration number here once it is issued. Contact: [email protected].

What we collect

  • The details you enter in the quote form: name, phone, email, postcode, service needed, property type, timeframe and any details you add.
  • Technical data needed to run and protect the service: the page you submitted from, the date and time, your browser's user agent, and a one-way hashed version of your IP address used to stop spam. We don't store your raw IP address with your enquiry.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile processes limited device and browser signals to check that you're not a bot.

Why we use it and our lawful basis

  • To find local suppliers and pass on your enquiry. Lawful basis: your consent, given with the tick box on the form (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).
  • To prevent spam and abuse, and keep records of enquiries. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in running a secure service (Article 6(1)(f)).

Who we share it with

  • Up to 3 independent local suppliers who cover your area and offer the service you asked about, so they can contact you about your enquiry. Each supplier is a separate data controller once they receive your data, and their own privacy policy applies.
  • Our service providers, who process data on our behalf: Cloudflare (website hosting, our database, Turnstile spam protection and email routing) and Google (email, which we use to receive and send email about enquiries). They may process data outside the UK under appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or UK adequacy regulations.

We don't sell your data to marketing lists, and we don't use it for unrelated marketing.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry records for 24 months after our last contact with you, then delete them, unless we need them longer to deal with a complaint or legal claim.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything we've already shared, but we'll ask suppliers we've sent it to to stop using it. Email [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).
